"Clare’s warm support and guidance helped me through a huge period of change in my life and I don’t know what I would have done without her. I was able to trust her instantly, and she completely transformed the way that I face challenges and adversity. I cannot recommend her enough to anyone seeking counseling."

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

ABOUT

ABOUT ME

I am a BACP Accredited, Integrative Counsellor. I draw from several counselling approaches but overall I am relational and compassion focused. I work with adults and young people (aged 13 years+). Additionally, I have specialist training and extensive experience in Trauma Therapy and Bereavement Counselling. I offer a warm and non-judgmental space where together we can explore any difficulties or challenges you may be facing and you can express your thoughts and emotions in a safe environment.

The initial consultation is an opportunity for you to see if we'd be a good fit and for us to discuss your needs and hopes from counselling. This means that I can tailor my approach to meet your needs, where possible. Having therapy and sharing your vulnerability takes real courage so developing a  trusting, therapeutic relationship is an important part of the process. This can understandably take time and it's essential that we work at your pace. I can help you to understand and make sense of your experiences and emotions and develop a more positive and compassionate relationship with yourself.

Additionally, I use Mindfulness, grounding and breath-work to help develop ways of calming, slowing down and reducing stress. If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, have suffered a bereavement or significant loss, loss of identity or purpose, relationship difficulties or any of the above or more, I am here to listen without judgment or expectation, to help you find your own way forward.

Just a funny little bit of information about me... I love dragonflies! For me, they symbolise transition and transformation... which can be quite challenging but with support and courage, can lead to personal growth and we can emerge with more resilience, wisdom and confidence.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

My Private Practice was established in 2015 and over the years I have counselled people from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, with multiple, complex needs and presentations. I have also worked with clients of all ages, from 9 to 80 years. Previously, I have worked for a number of Bristol based counselling organisations / charities as both a Counsellor and a Clinical Supervisor, including the Southmead Project, Cruse Bereavement, Off the Record and Help Counselling. At the Southmead Project, I was a Specialist Trauma and Abuse Counsellor for several years, providing trauma informed counselling to adult survivors of historic trauma and abuse.

Additionally, I have extensive experience of working with children and young people and worked in the education sector for over 20 years. Over that time, I worked in various capacities including, School Counsellor, Mentoring, Pastoral and Teaching roles. I have extensive experience in counselling young people both in schools and privately. I am a qualified and experienced Clinical Supervisor and provide Clinical Supervision and Reflective Practice to Counsellors and pastoral staff in numerous schools across Bristol and the surrounding areas. Whilst working at Off the Record, I was instrumental in developing a School Counselling Service for secondary schools in South Gloucestershire. I also provide Clinical Supervision for Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Mental Health Workers and Family Practitioners working in both Private Practice and in the charity sector, including several Trauma Counselling Services.

Additionally, I have experience as a Counselling Trainer and have worked as a Tutor and Lecturer on the Foundation Degree in Counselling at City of Bristol College, in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I work according to the ethics and standards of the BACP Ethical Framework. To keep up to date with best practice I receive monthly Clinical Supervision and attend regular professional development events.
